[Cruel to be Kind - Nick Lowe] (1979)
Moving from 1969 to 1979, today I bring you “Cruel to be Kind.” This song seems kind of forgotten for what apparently made it to the Top 40 back in the day. I’ve only heard this on the radio once like two years ago and that’s it (and once on Raising Hope recently).
This song has a very catchy refrain, probably one that’ll get stuck in your head all day. What’s most interesting though, is that this is a newer version of the song. The original one was at a bit of a faster tempo and has a quite different feel to it (& kick-ass bass!). I don’t know which is the one that made it to the Top 40 back in the day, but I prefer the “slower” and apparently newer one. It simply sounds more polished.
